Review

I like graphic scenes of violence committed by lovably erudite serial killers as much as the next man. I most enjoyed the brain as boiled egg scene. It really stuck in my head. I do wonder though whether this hero Hannibal is a suitable rolemodel for the dumb thugs, dull bourgeoiss, and repulsive upper classes that make up our contemporary society. He is too clever and too weird for us to identify with. He knows himself and he is easily bored, unlike the sadistic gawpers who watch his perfectly rendered computerised acts of torture, failing to notice the utter stupidity and lack of imagination of the story. What they really need to put in these gory pictures is some hardcore sex, but that would be overegging the pudding, and too much to stomach for our prudish little society.
