Review

When in Venice, Italy do see the following exhibitions: Gli Etruschi at the Palazzo Grassi; Bellotto at the Correr; and Segantini at the Peggy Guggenheim.

In a word Gli Etruschi presents the combined collections from as many as 80 museums of Etruscan life. Sometimes the different each have different parts of the same object which is asembled for the first time in this exhibit. Stupendo!

The work of Bellotto is breathtaking both in terms of the size, detail and the evolution of the artists work. He paints urban as well as pastoral country scenes and gives a real sense of the social interactions and social structure of the 1800's in Central Europe.

Segantini's work is somewhat overly sentimental, as well as incorporating symbolic elements and Art noveau embellishments. I love the country scenes, you can almost smell the animals and the inclusion of some significant correspondence gives a true sense of the life of the artist.
