Review

Munoz crystalizes the alienation and beauty of the city in this thrilling installation. Empty lifts ride up and down ceaslessly, whilst geometric wholes (holes) lead somewhere or nowhere, Escher or exit. Underneath, subterranean, subconscious, gray figures lurk in narrow dwellings sandwiched floor to ceiling, and the light filters through illuminating these lonely groups and the floor below checkerboard style. In the exturbine hall Munoz has made both a picture of now or the future as well as a cunning visual game playing with the Tate's history and look. This is very clever.
