Review

Through the letterbox comes my New Yorker in its pretty cover, bringer of reading pleasure and antidote to insomnia, connection to the world of ideas and facts. The NYer is the only decent magazine around. Its articles are often too long and a little tedious, but they are researched and well written, something to sink your teeth into. There are short stories by good people, cartoons that are occasionally as funny as cartoons can be, and reviews that tell you about movies before they reach London, and restaurants that you will never go to but are happy to have read about at least. It makes our newspapers and magazines look flimsy and trivial which they are. What an anodyne review!
