Dowson has a talent for making dense images. He messes around with canvas paintings, hanging up, glueing or nailing them to other objects. Miraculously he manages to extract some life from the moribund medium. Stinking slightly of the hobbyist, a little eager to expain and reference, there is still pleasure to be gainded from these bad painting trompe-l'oiel curios.
