Ed's Easy Diner. Rudolph Steiner's Diner. Ed's difficult diner. Let's face it, Ed is a brand name for a chain of American style restaurants around London. Last week I went to two of Ed's diners in one day and drank a milkshake at each one. In Soho you get to watch the dirty human traffic on Old Compton Street as you sit on your stool slurping yr shake form its stainless steel sarcophagus, the fan spinning cool. Great on a hot day, though you can't just have a drink at dinner time. So much for that Easy American service. The mocha shake is pretty much perfectly good, made with icecream and coldmilk and flavorings, thick and plentiful, and somewhere between coffee and chocolate. Three fifty about.

Later in the day we meet at the O2 centre to Shake again. The view is blue. Just other souls, single, couples, or gangs, looking for food at one of the chains that comprise the O2 mall or seeing a movie at the Warner Village. No natural light or sight of life, but the same quality of mshake, this time with a shot of booze to make things easier. The peanut butter and chocolate can be too sickly sweet. The burgers were ok, but it's been a long time.
