The best cycle repair shop in London is generally considered to be bikefix on Lambs Conduit St, WC1. It is small and independant owned, with links to the growing green/ anti capitalist movement, but don't let this put you off, it is also an extraordinarily successful business. It is usually open past 7pm. Just go round to the side exit and hand your bike in. I used it once, and it didn't seem very cheap to me, but I've been assured by others the work would've been more expensive elsewhere.
