Review

Doug was my favourite at the last Biennale. He's good at this urban dreaming stuff. People seemed very impressed by the big surround and intersecting screens, which are good, and video art has jumped forward into a more sculptural and lavishly technological future ( see Abigail Lane as well). However the symbolism of gymnastics and melting ice and walking are none too tight and a little Gappy. The sounds of this show ravish the ear and the layout freshens the tired Serpentine, but the meat is without flavour and seems overcooked.

translated, from the German, by F. Scholl.
