The Battle of Algiers is a fit film, I wonder what the actor of Ali LaPointe is up to these days. Apparently he used all his money made from the film to purchase agricultural machinery. I thought it would be interesting to make a film of him now living in the Algiers' suburbs say La Providence, going to work in a spiffy suit and playing in the evenings. Something that struck me was the way the FLN assumed control of the criminal underworld of Algiers as evinced in the scene when Ali shoots his former partner pimp with an AK-47. The cruel irony of the current Algerian situation is that much is being repeated from the 54-62 war. Check out www.algerie-guide.com for lovely scenic photographs of Tipassa and other Classical ruins.
