the paintings in the whole of the planet earth have been made to variations of formulas for at least one thousand years. Before that other formulas applied. Painting surprises in the difference, not in the repetition. The installation is a means of representing and displaying repetition, so we can be surprised with difference and understand it. Hence critic on paternalistic or excessive pedagogy applicable. He sets the rules of the formula clearly, but still surprises in the rest.
