I've had my bike nicked simply because I was dumb enough to lock my bike up to a railing WITHOUT CONNECTING THE BIKE TO THE LOCK!
...seems there are more mindlessly distracted bike locker uppers than we think. I still unlocked my lock and took it home with me though. That thing cost 30 quid.
