Smallish show of xrays of old masters.You can see how they drew ecverything out and then coloured them in. Is genuinely interesting. Technique was quite constant. But perhaps misleading because they don't show the people who just painted straight onto the canvas without drawing ( velazquez did this?). We underestimate the importance of the tedious method painters used to employ, is really the main feature of their art, subject was irrelevant, it was the perfection of surface, brushmarklessness that most of them cared about.
