Review

Jaime's accelerating, the galleries of the rather unpleasant Jerwood space, are well suited by his leaning and crowding of paintings. Not sure they conjure up racing cars or whatever, but that doesn't matter, as his art manages a little surprise, which is more than we can usually hope for. Weirdly or Ironically or Mistakenly, the car photos complementing or explaining the paintings could be confused with some sort of motor city sponsorship. In the age of nothingness and art's defeat we can look at abstract paintings and not have any idea where to begin. A good place to be? where a colour or a drip gives us joy, and we scratch our head and move on. Gili's show is two rooms: one black and white stars, the other long oblong colourful.
