Review

If a tree falls in the forest etc. etc. I saw this at a one-off screening at Bafta, so I can't be sure when anyone else will be able to catch it, but. It was good, an unusual and amusing mix of musical, animation, and live action, done well enough to make you forget that this was not your quotidian short. It didn't bore me, but I was left feeling that the story of a spurned programmer unleashing an apocalyptic computer virus, was insignificant and under realised compared to the brilliant style and energy of the film. One wants to know if an hour of the same could be as entertaining. It also occurred to me that an art audience, some sophisticates at The ICA, might be more encouraging than the late night short brigade ( more Matthew Barney than Spielberg). Everyone walked out of the cinema happy and pleased, if only all films were 13 minute musicals, just the actors seemed puzzled that they had conspired to make such an unusual film. They will understand one day that this was their best work.
