Hi interesting your views on television. I don't watch massive heaps of television but try to be selective. A couple of months ago I had a great television experience and was ritually rewarded and entertained by endless programs on "Animals that Kill to Survive", or "Evil Men in History".

I think with the exception of a few programs and program makers, who are making good and valuable art, the mass of Television is commercial schlock. Stay in one night and commit yourself to satellite television or cable television and you'll see what I mean. Why do so many people flick from channel to channel?

How can television be innovative when focus groups and management discussions decide what gets commissioned. Did you listen to the speech given by Dennis Potter before his death? He made some very valid points about the strength and weakness of television in Britain.

I don't think anybody, especially, intellectuals are saying television can't be art.
