Review

The best thing about this book is the authors first name, as in no worries Murray, cheers big ears, the Australian liturgy. Lavish praise by eminent critics fills its first two or three pages, but I was underwhelmed as I am by most contemporary novels.

The whole was twee with the authors writing school intentions writ large. Paul Auster has a lot to answer for. Pretty sentences fall clumsily. Not poetry or the Arabian nights, more research than inspiration. Not once did I see a beautiful gum tree, or even any of the characters, perhaps that would be old fashioned success for a writer, but all thats left is reams of flat prose.
