Review

A truly scorching 35 degrees, no choice for us but to drink beer. Folks playing cricket, a juggler, kids in the adventure playground, dogs looking lethargic, a BBQ in the pub garden. £4.30p for a pint of Hoegaarden, but it's lemony and tastes of summer. People are friendly, relaxed, an old local who's keen to tell his travel tales, brash young trendies with their kids, Anglicised Kiwis sitting in the shade, reckless sunbathers burning red and shrivelled. The fields were a burial ground for plague victims, the lime trees point the way. There's an Olympic bid to build a swimming pool, no way can they. Want to go and get an ice cream and sit on the swings. It's so hot, so so hot. Sun follows us round the table, warming our beers, shadows disappear and we can only sit and sweat. Lazy kisses, sleepy hearts. Let's stay for another.
