The Moronic Inferno by Martin Amis

Review

very readable collected jouralism about America by young Amis. He is good, but two faults: one he worships the riches and fame of American authors in a tedious aren't we different in little old England way, two he sneers occasionally at American pronunciations, in that silly English manner ( as though correct ,i.e their, pronunciation is a real indication of intelligence) which is also revealed in his love of obscure words. No need to show off, Martin. You are not stupid even if your father wrote a book you'll never equal: Luck Jim. The English never get over prep school or Oxbridge, so that's why they won't write a great American novel. The Americans aren't so scared of people laughing at them or knowing something they don't.
