Review

His first novella is pretty good. Very easy to read tale of first love. It flows sweet and clever, except the diaphragm ending which is a bit short storyish (always a neat twist).

But I am sick of the novel world, with all its carefully rendered places and voices; lurking behind are the hideous intelligence and pitiful experiences of the author, and I hate the artifice/ art. Reminds me of the limitations of a painting on its rectangle canvas, this has nothing to do with the way it looks. Roth and co. know too much how it all is, they even know what they don't know, real experience is colder, less held together, and has no story.
