Review

http://www.museumofchildhood.org.uk/ Why did they have to make it so childish? The teddy bear exhibition I went to see was a disgrace. The bears were crowded higgledy piggledly into cases (cages) with careless labels and very little historical background. As though because they're toys they can be treated like children. This museum, a lovely building, makes the dumb assumption that it must aim to please the lowest common denominator, in their patronisingly imaginations, of the taste of kids and poor people. Teddy bears are fascinating aesthetically and socio-historically and they deserve a rigorous and respectful exhibition, not this clownish jumble sale.
