Review

My artist friend and I expressed our negative opinions to two assistantes from Gagogosian, we're too tired to talk about art to artists, we spend all our lunchtimes discussing it, they said.

So that's it. Pettibon was not delightful or insightful, and the scratchy ink on paper pinned to the wall looked very passe. Another acquaintance is drawn into debate: There's no skill in these, my friend declares carelessly, she replies how can you possibly have skill as a criterion, what is skill?.

Skill is an idea stupid people often cling to, but that does not make it any more of a stupid idea than other contemporary ideas that people rely on. Pettibon is certainly without the skill of making good art, regardless of whether or not his draughtmanship is the equal of Raphael.

Finally an art critic encountered at the sparse party, but the critic just seems bored in an indefinite way, that means we accept that this is not great art, but it would be too painful and destructive to say why.

The staus quo... the status quo. Bring back Celine.
