Review

The only way to relieve the tedium of crap TV and the dullness of head was to wallow in it further, a marathon 4 DVDs worth of films and left over vodka with pizza. It doesn't make you feel any better but just makes you feel like you are too numb and lazy to care. That it is the first day of 2004 bears no relevance to the rainy grey and the draughty living room . All civilisation tucked indoors and ignoring the world for a day - what happens today on New Year's day, all expectations and excitations now fizzle out and dissolve like the Alka Seltzer. Actually it was 3 DVDs and a TV film "What Women Want" - a light -hearted romantic comedy starring Mel Gibson...So we managed to watch this bit of fluff, as well as a gritty reality drama about a kid and his junkie mother, a horror set in a disused mental hospital and American pap (Zoolander, was actually quite funny). And now on the 2nd day of 2004 it is a shock to the system to come out of hiding to a world of normality. Sorry, should be grateful that my world is "normal". But always that sense of "the next year will be better"... And even if this year is good then the next will surely be better. Funny how every New Year is different but the following day's melancholy is always the same. 2nd Jan 2004 - am at work now, feeling sick, tired and emotional and already wishing away my time.
