Review

http://www.vilmagold.com/ There must have been a million people at the chic opening of the new big vilma gold space featuring von hellerman. There was avant-garde music , beer for a pound, and paintings. Hallelulah.

Her paintings are a bit rococo, with a matt finish. What is good is that they are personal, somewhat witty, easy, and swirling.

Bad is that they haven't really moved on since last time I saw them. They make the same point over and over again. The dry paint gets dull on repeated viewing, the sunk in acrylic does not sustain interest, and they no longer excite the eye with their casual verve. Their subjects too look a little forced and lacking her old inspiration.

Von Hellerman is not bad, but she could go much further.
