Talking about the special relationship, why not make a documentary about the influence of American writers (e.g Updike, Roth, Bellow, etc) on English ones? The snob's target, dumb brits aping fat Americans, was obvious.. the sort of thing which is cliche of Brits criticizing what they imagine America to be. Therefore I couldn't believe that you were using this Americana fesitival, as part of a serious critique of the special realtionship. Those people have no power, and they are a tiny minority,and represent nothing.
Thus the obvious can be confusing. One always searches for irony, especially in art.
