I think that there’s a very plausible explanation for why the TV on Valentine’s night was not particularly romantic; and in some instances was totally unromantic - ‘Sixth Sense’ being a case in point.
This year Valentine’s night fell on a Saturday and TV producers must have thought that all of the couples in the UK would be going out for dinner. Thus leaving an audience of single people at home, who would not want to be reminded of their state of single-ness by lots of romantic TV. Hence, the unromantic TV on Valentine’s night.
What this doesn’t explain, however, was the generally poor standard of the TV that was on offer, irrespective of its romantic content!
