Review

Book launches seem to be quite like gallery openings except that on the wall are a bunch of books not some art. The books are there and you stare at their covers, and try to spot the author in a crowded room. If you are an author it may be useful to be tall. There were snacks like cheese and salami at this launch, which would be unusual to find in an art context. The people at the book launch are a bit posher and less trendy and older than art people. The books can be taken away, though you're meant to pay for them, and the author will be pleased to sign one or two. With art the signature is signed before the opening, and the artist will not often pen a message to a friend on the back of canvas,, and there will be no touching of the work itself. At both types of event attendess will drain a lot of free alcohol and hoover up food.
