Review

People seemed to think this was a good show, and I looked at it and didn't think it was bad, so it might have been good. The Holocaust theme ( upstairs which I couldn;t face queuing for: ash coated gallery walls) makes me puke a bit. This monochromatic response to Europe's top tragedy no longer seems relevant, it looks a bit like the wrong interior design for Europe's damaged soul. Today's Holocaust art must take into account the new terror , which is that people no longer believe in it, or think of it only in a way like the battle of Waterloo, something that happened etc. But Balka's work does have a witty and material charm which saves it from being hateful. I may however be suffering from brain damage due to the repetitive blows of bad art and bottled beer.
