Review

Hello from the U.S. This film is pretty emotional stuff even if like me your not a Christian. Gibson lays it on thick, in fact far too thick. This is the only film I can recall where people cried and left in silence. After the film I checked out the Bible and Gibson's portrayal is pretty much as recorded word for word. Perhaps that's the problem; it doesn't convey its message with much depth. Really you find yourself thinking is it any different to a horror, slasher type film? The scene of Christ being whipped for example is just ridiculously and needlessly long.

People in the film are divided between those who are powerless but loyal and those who are viloent, oppressive and sadistic. The Jews are stereotyped but so to are the taunting, sadistic and brutal Roman soldiers. This film is propaganda I think. A more intelligent portrayal would have been better.
