My mind was preoccupied by crack houses and the beautiful rhythm of rain and sunshine. The Vyner Street Mafia were all closed on this early day of the week, so I was lucky to corner the gallerist doing his accounts and obtain lawful entry to this Spanish London artist's spunky show of shaped canvases. Where Marce's work pays off is when the verve of joyful painting breaks free from the system, basically when she could care less. If she allows the pattern to become too deliberate the painting gets boring. It's nice to non-rectangular canvases but they are a dangerous intoxication which can lead paintings to become attractive decorative objects. Outside, towards Hackney, the street hustle and mess lifts the spirits to new heights.
