Stagecoach run a bus/coach service from Cambridge to Oxford; the vehicle itself is a hybrid of these two. The outward afternoon service runs at 3 hours but the evening return trip comes in at 2 hours 40 minutes. It didn't go by the bus guide and actually left slightly earlier than advertised. This meant that I didn't drink my coffee, which the driver said I couldn't take in. However, I was able to smuggle in a scrumptious sandwich from a nearby Italian shop, such is my cunning. All along the journey, I taught myself pieces of Chemistry from various books, studying with interruptions strengthens my resolve to understand concepts. On the return journey, I also dipped into Biology. The route crossed several counties and afforded me the pleasure of seeing into middle England. A huge complex at Milton Keynes, where there was a soccer match going on, was one of the stops. I asked a gentleman what was on offer in the surroundings- he was unable to divulge such titbits. Some young ladies who had joined us in Bedford, stepped off here. They had been discussing carbohydrates. I wonder if my reading material inspired them; I certainly like to think so. Bedford gave me a peaceful, restful feeling. The bus station was in a shopping arend where people drove forward small businesses. Also, this was the birthplace of Ian Hamilton's biographer, Alex 'Dave Death' Barley. Bicester, advertised a ex-servicemen's club. It held little else for me. By the time I arrived in Oxford, I was twitching with excitement and regaled my self with a floury apple strudel at the croissanterie.
