Review

http://wip.warnerbros.com/beforesunset/ At first this sequel is too cute, the stars talk and mimic nerves, and they put you off, Ethan and Julie, they're repulsive. But as they continue through Paris( hardly that of Celine, instead safe and clean) their charm grows, like when you begin to find a person attractive and forget your first impression, and the adolescent magic of the first film begins to work again. Half way through, you're real-time enraptured by the greatest plot of all: will two people manage love.

The extemporised dialogue sometimes is a bit heavy, not clever and funny enough, but perhaps all the more realistic for it's lack of artificial perfection. And even Hawke's manic old-boyish friendliness, and Delpy's skeletalish coy femininity, stop grating on the eye, and we allow ourselves maximum sentimental happy pleasure in her siren waltz at the end.

Yes, as they talk, walk, and travel, we re- fall in love with them, and they with each other, and ourselves, and hopes. Hold the vomit bag you cynics, I loved it.
