Review

Don't see this film if you don't like Will Smith, as you will be subjected to a lot of his 'charisma'. 'I, Robot' is not a bad film if you don't expect it to provoke an existential crisis, and you don't object to intense product placement. Smith plays the role of a cop in 2035 with what is considered by his colleagues to be an irrational distrust of robots. Although his fears prove founded his warnings are not heeded and thus a complicated plot ensues, with plenty of action, special effects and a twist that only just made the mark.

The film is very loosely based on the eponymous Asimov novel. Unsurprisingly, there is minimal probing into the interesting philosophical, and indeed existential, questions that the development of artificial intelligence provokes.

Cogito ergo sum. I wish I could say that "I, Robot" signifies thought is happening, therefore the machine has consciousness of existence. This film does not think, but it exists is and not such a bad choice if you'd like to escape your own existence for a couple of hours.
