A small percentage of lycra or nylon allows a sock to be more durable. Bad socks I have reviewed include those that loose all elasticity at inopportune times due to their over zealous cotton content. After the excitement of the first few washes this leaves one with a sock that slowly slides down the ankle and into the shoe during any substantial walk. The ungraceful result is a thoroughly useless sock, that may reduce sweating in the foot region, but increases it in all others.
