Having ridden the crest of my stealing music by downloading from net, wave; I have now post birthday presently got an mp3 player to listen to not the noise of traffic and clang of contemporary life. It makes a difference, not enough to assuage the 30 minute lateness of a bus, but plenty to cool my neurotic awareness of the world (being alive, thinking etc.) I never had a walkman, cdman, or other quickly, in geological terms, defunct portable music system. Now my banal life has a soundtrack. I do worry that someone will mug it from round my neck, and I shall be forced to chase them, and that they shall be armed and dangerous, but still....
Make sure you get one, if not an ipod which I've heard some bad things about, with as much storage as possible, variety, jumps from punk to minimalism to bach to poopy love songs etc, is the spice of mp3 life. Shuffle.
