Review

Fela Anikulapo Kuti: Black President. This is a good show inspired by one of the great geniuses of the 20th Century. It accompanies a whole range of events celebrating Fela's music and his legacy. Everybody who loves Fela remembers the incredible moment when they first heard Fela. When this show was at the New Museum in New York there was a big rush of musical, artistic, political and critical debate and passion and activity surrounding Fela; I hope the same happens here because Fela should be loved and debated and talked about and turned up real loud. What struck me, apart from how unique and mighty and incredible a figure Fela was and is, was how Fela should be a source of education; Fela's legacy should be education about Music, Nigeria, Politics, Aids, African sound etc.. and sending everyone you know to go enjoy this exhibition is a great start. Wonder and respect and amazing afrobeat sounds emerging from the Barbican. good thing I think.
