Kerry Bush first presidential debate

Review

It was a good debate on foreign policy. Kerry was the clear winner, clear and intelligent, without being patronising. Bush was not a disaster, but occasionally seemed lost for words, and repeated himself a lot. Kerry is taller than Bush, which should help too. Perhaps if he can keep up this high level of performance, and Bush remains fidgety and simplistic, than he will win the votes of enough reasonable Americans to become President. However in order to really overturn the deficit Kerry must land a big hit, to say or provoke a soundbite, which can be endlessly repeated on television, and which will epitomize up his superiority to Bush. Anyway in this debate Kerry looked a different class, and not social class, to which they both belong to the patrician and powerful despite Bush's startling ability to pass himself off as a plain speaking evangelical Texan with beliefs and no book learning.

PS: It was interesting to hear the two of them discussing big issues of forein policy in a quite reasoned and intelligent way, and belies the normal impression Europeans have of dumb Americans.
