Review

How pleased am I to see a review category that covers the vast majority of my reviews, unless I delve into art and literature, which is too important a subject to be left to politicians, as de Gaulle once said. Or something like that. Did you see 'Day of the Jackal' the other day? Darn, fine film. Would have liked to catch the beginning, showing grafitti using pied noir(French Algerian) terms of disrespect, that I gleaned from extensive and random reading of that period of history. Down in Brighton, a Safeway is tucked away near the seafront amongst down and outs and in and outs. Opposite, I purchased some exercise books while an arty teacher in a pea jacket extolled the auburn beauty of the saleslady. She took it happily in her stride. Had considered hunting out a poundworld, but not feeling virtuous enough. Bought a vegetable-oriented selection of food, and some prawns. Wanted other meats, but not sure what they'd done to them. GM and Battleship Potemkin levels of hygiene, as seen on docs., has put me off the stuff unless I'm dining cordon bleu in Etonstone. Kept a mental shopping list and made do with what I'd accumulated, then nipped back home, dodging buses and racers, until I was back in the protected confines of Sussex University campus. Tomorrow, I catch a bus to Asda. More to follow...
