Waddabout a Poo art fair? There's plenty of material available in the park... I know, there was a big crush, and noone could get it, but I thought it nice to have art in the zoo, with nice conjunctions of arty people with downtrodden zoogoers. And basically I think these fairs are fun and good and good for artists. But on the other hand, there's too many absymal paintings churned at art-school standard, and there's not enough real pizazz, style, or joy in the people or art. Overall the work in zoo was scrappier and smaller than the Frieze stuff, and boring adopted the same money-making formula of about four painter's paintings and a sculpture, and a framed photo, in each booth. Which gets dull, multiplied by 200. Why not have one artist, or an installation. Easy answer: harder to sell. I feel the Zoo should have a more refusenik emphasis, not just by inviting punier galleries.

Anyway, bravo art fairs,, look forward to more next year. Roll on poo art fair, the return of brown monochrome paintings!
