Review

The White Cube opening was the usual glamorous affair only really attended by the up and coming art world for the free Ashi beer - so much more preferable to Becks and the added bonus of having to stand in Hoxton Square staring dolefully up at Jay Jopling's empire, gradually cube by cube encroaching on the sky. If being segregated outside is not enough to remind us of our inferior status there is always the added bonus of watching the A list guests drinking champagne from the top floor whilst we only get to experience Sam Taylor-Wood in the rain. By the end of the evening those who hadn't sought shelter were being to look rather bedraggled as the raindrops trickled down their faces creating an illusion of tears -a fitting response to Sam's crying celebrity portraits - only the crowd's tears were of frustration. Come on Sam celebrities crying - surely you can do better than that or has your celebrity status gone to your head? Sam Taylor-Wood at the White Cube -see it and weep.
