Review

This book reminds me of a book that you might receive from someone who you don’t know, or give to someone you don’t know, generally dull photographs with quotations floating next to them in large type. e.g ‘A flower, a leaf…A glistening, shimmering stone’ ‘I though I was in Tahiti … when the fragrance of woodland or burning grass is wafted on the breeze, I can smell the wood of the islands’ These remind me of a travel brochure. Most of them are taken from Matisse’s letters, though there are a few taken from poets such as Baudelaire. The photographs which are interesting show Matisse painting etc, while others show views from his windows, shots of the chairs in his house. There is a page full of doves. The book is a bit like a miniature coffee table book.
