Review

From the start the Crafts Council doesn’t have the name to inspire excitement or energy. Fuddies of the 60’s and 70’s will remember how it used to be in so and so and since then have lost track of it, the same fuddies who remember Central (‘how brilliant it was, you will have a lot of fun there’) and still haven’t managed to accept its transformation. This exhibition is of Scandinavian design. We can’t escape it. It surrounds our cities in large warehouses, from where it has crept in to our homes, homogenising the world, and now it exhibits its self in Angel. The first room was white and simple as expected, as were the objects it contained. The second was a slight relief from the boredom and offered more gutsy (less Scandinavian?) tit tat. The shop was full of its usual crafty nonsense. Long live the Crafts Council.
