Inappropriate category. Would be depressing to have one called death. Toon army is what newcastle fans are called, and there is also a cable channel with a similar name which shows cartoons. On CNN there was no news, just the same headline and pictures every time I looked. A wave has killed thousands, and especially tragic is that some well-off holiday makers were amongst those swept up. Perhaps my annoyance with the hierarchy of focus on the killed (from the top: individual famous people's relatives, english horror stories, europeans numbers, countless anonymous browns and poors) is merely avoidance of thinking about what has happened. Hokusai. Surfing. Drowning. An enormous power when the earth under the sea moves. It began, when they saw that somebody had pulled the plug out of the ocean. A multiplication by a huge factor of our fears of drowning, of normal things like the rise and fall of the tide, become fearfully giant, swarms, plagues, and waves.
