Review

The newspaper headlines shout of chaos and failure, the jobcentre in the middle classes' imagination is a deeply shameful dirty place, some Dickensian phantasm of the workhouse, full of rough people skiving off the state, taking money which nice families could be spending on organic apples and nursery schools and 8 seater cars.

Mine is different. Sliding doors open on to a place of efficiency and security. A gaggle of suited group 4 security officers are there to greet you and take you where you need to go. It is very clean, hushed, with everyone waiting patiently and been dealt with in good time by courteous staff. Most of the claimants are youngish men and women, which makes you wonder that they can't find jobs, but perhaps they are looking for a position that suits their skills and ambitions. The taxpayers fund the less well-off, the seekers, and a grand thing it is too.
