I've wanted to read one of Powys' books. At first glance, it is a hard name to pronounce but I was acquainted with that name at school. In fact that very same person's father died last month in South Africa, where he was living. Yet interestingly, when I was told so over the phone, I thought it was Harris, which just goes to show that the name is indeed elusive. Our headmaster used to make a whistling sound whenever he said it. Wanted to write a few words to the bereaved man, but can't get hold of his address. I do know that he's working as a zoo-keeper in SA. To go back to the original Powys, it was Colin Wilson who recommended him to me in writing. He's into strange thingies, so it figures that Powys comes across as being mystical. Six years ago, I did acquire his non-fiction work 'Culture' but I'd never get round to reading it now. All my time seems to be taken up by the nature of disease. Last night, I did watch the opening of 'Christ Stopped at Eboli' though. I'll come back to that
