This film is a masterpiece, a kind of charming homage to Cousteau without having any of the weaknesses of pastiche. It encompasses moods such as romanticism, hollow heroism, longing, and wonder at nature. It's very entertaining, I've watched it 1.5 times because I saw the first half on a dodgy DVD which went haywire, and then payed the movie the ultimate compliment by paying to seeing it on the big screen. It's a hang-out movie, rewatchable. The mix of artifice and ntauralism could be twee, fake sea creature might seem a little whimsical, but actually they make the magic. Anyway, enough trying to saying why it's good, it's good so see it, and gives hope for cinema.
