Review

This man presents civilisation. His show is one of the classics of a lost world of value judgments and sweeping statements. Fantastic are his mangled strange pronunciations, and his visage as he talks to camera is a picture. Lots of shots of art. And him talking. That's it really and why it's so good. He's not afraid to be an expert, not a gonzo goon faux-naive like todays art hosts. Perhaps he's wrong, and epitomizes everything that's terrible about the old patronising high culture, but I'd take 50mins of him over a 1000 long hours of art safaris or Caravaggios with Tim Marlowe. Earth calling Heaven: we need intelligence which dares to judge.
