Review

no drug is going to help. Hashish and absinthe were actually bad for Rimbaud as a poet. I never knew this until I read it last night at the hotel. I wish I'd known it when I was dropping acid in my early twenties. What did I want anyway? The only things that have ever mattered are, in order of importance, ------- looking at me as if I was actually someone who mattered. No, there are other things, but this was like getting religion. The only other time I ever doubled up and cried like that was in front of a fresco in Italy. A very large element of these experiences is a powerful awareness of just how bullshit most of the rest is (with honourable exceptions too numerous to mention).
