Lee Miller was the glamorous friend of Picasso etc, and she took some good photos in the clear eyed way of black and white portrait photography. I wasn't sure whether they're meant to be good because they show interesting people or because they are interesting photographs. It would be interesting to see some bad photos of famous sexist painters and their girlfriends. I am interested in the details of old artists: picasso's baldness, did they look embarassed on their bare-breasted surreal picnic, what kind of bohemian cut of trousers they sported. The show was full so I think other people are interested in famous people too. The National Portrait Gallery is a really stupid idea. Why the hell is it necessary to have a collection of bad art showing important faces? Use the internet if you wanna see what someone looks like.
