Particularly, as I've wondered before, why is it fetishised by artists like Tacita Dean? Here's a theory: I've heard that the reason people have candle lit dinners is that the flicker of candle light creates the chemical effect of being in love. Maybe the flicker of a projected film has the same effect. It often feels like that. But if the film is really bad, the flicker effect is not enough to override the basic badness effect. Or is it?
