Review

Jamie has defeated the government and they will now be serving rocket and watercress salad with slow roasted pigs knuckles and balsamic vinegar dressing in all schools. Parents of children who refuse to eat asparagus will be fined £75 and forced to take classes in healthy citizenship.

Jamie Oliver is pretty good on the old telly. He is clear and expressive and makes you interested in what he's talking about. Like a really good teacher perhaps. And there's something touching for us middle classes in seeing malnourished northern youngsters, pale as sushi, who've never tasted avocado being rescued and made enthusiastic about roast parsnips. Children living on salt and fat and pot noodle and chips is depressing for civilised Londoners. We who value our self-health and our tastes so highly are very disgusted by such poverty. And don't worry if we'll pay more taxes, now that we have nicer restaurants in London, it had to follow that the schools would follow our snobbish delight in fine food and tv chefs. Nigella for head mistress and Jamie for PM!
